EV Vida Meet-N-Geek cohosted with AT230 2/19/2023 9AM

Going to have small EV and Coffee (AT230); all EVs welcome. EV Vida will be present to give some stuff away and I will be performing a new DIY installation for products from our store. Come check us out!

We have LED Emblems, Sequence LEDs, MudFlaps (Ariya + MME), Mando Start Buttons Covers, MME Louvers, and many more!

Project Hello vs. Project Hollow

Haven’t done a post for awhile; so many projects and so many content to create. First if you haven’t already we now have a Reddit Channel at https://www.reddit.com/r/EV_Vida/ and also on YouTube at https://youtube.com/@evvidastore

Now back to the Morse Code projects. We have two concurrent projects being tested. Not sure if both projects will make its way but here they are.

Project Hello

First, Project Hello is progressing slowly but this project has a lot involved. The PCB takes time and the finish on this is going to be our best yet. Most of our enthusiasts asked about the gloss black and as you know we did not ultimately carried this due to painting defects. Well that has been solved!

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1-OebgqkDLzVqLI6OcCB4wlmlUYeh0MSa
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=15RK4BZoD3Mqnz5ALxk1ew3MgPfgJ6Rxc
As you know, what makes Project Hello unique is that it not only glows but it flashes in Morse cose H-E-L-L-O

Another update in 2-weeks!

Project Hollow
Project Hollow is a byproduct of keeping the see through color of the car. Our best seller in fact is the Hollow Emblem. So we decided to light these up as well BUT they will not have any additional behavior beyond the LEDs lighting up. We plan to design one for the front and back:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=12spLCtXcnclltjcbd8pgUaLoGjekm_Udhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=11gXQedIZOK8vUV5_Ci2c_S4p42n-hIT_

For the back, we are considering a version that turns on during brake light initiation and white when going in reverse. Another option is to have the red mirror the tailight behavior which means it turns red on when tailight is on.

Both options are going to be elite and we are excited to have them both announce by March!

Project EV6/KIA Glow

I recently came across a product that was quite appealing. As most of you know by now we are continuously looking to expand our EV line with more custom products unique to the EV. I see websites that cross sells products that are more universal and while that’s great for sales, it doesn’t users understand how to make it work for this car. The figure it out on your own mentality. I suppose that’s where we come in and figure it out for EVers.

I hit my up my buddy Daniel who owns an EV6 with an idea to light up his front emblem. Early concept required is to drill into his hood to route the wires. As you can see below, the 1/4 drill is centered:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=11RjR9w4X3srCqZRliBR6PAJGDUfkr5HS
More on the measurments above later. The emblem has 3 wires intended for grounding and the choice to choose between red and/or white LEDs. These LEDs are bright AF!

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=16U1WA1BzxPvgarvFpMyZd92Msw0LPimChttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1chT7M8Mw6DXrqDGrM8E14UF1Qbek5WTp

The testing went fairly well because beyond th e emblem placement, I wanted to make sure future EV6 owners understands what routing methodology exists. We successfully remove the interior clips for the sound padding and routed most of the wires so it’s completely hidden.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1YnONMgm8JraoR_M40xtEkQ8TLo59vqPQhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1JVF3o_C2pWMuaMiwhLikyjGg61gWG5fzhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1SoaP2Jg_Ob_oDzu_MOVW7HlLhzIZW_wGhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1pXE9G008GiY3YxurWTRPJDEIRQjdALl2

My goal was to tap into the low beams for the 12v and when the vehicle is on auto light settings, the emblem would turn on at night when unlocking car and when low beams are on. The emblem can also be activated by turning on the low beams as well. Based on testing, we rely on tapping into the headlights using PosiTaps to Pin 1 and Pin 5:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13jP0GeDw4BQMpf7wolzM-xCvmcyrbCh1https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1QdE02RRkyDtppxFM3UznKR1bJqLhOMDKhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1l_30X0rV5turDU-yrDPvzuo9ubzSmq8j

I personally like using PosiTaps since it’s easily reversible and simple to use. Once tapped, the remaining cables were zipped tied and hidden.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OF-m6MlQCSp3WJ1Wp_1k8mqaWsSjF5n4https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1chqGLWHFTnu4oYkQz_k1kWQc__tvAETshttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Ty9Jlas47_rV_0XroU9uxNYAhRMEzpfR
The way it’s routed, pinching of the wire is highly unlikely as you can see by the hinge:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Z8JN84OfYZz4T29fgi2v8V8bhRLuxu0jhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=15BSIulctJMhY22QIGp5uwC-8hvS289qp
And once the padded barrier is reinstalled, the wires should be nearly impossible to pick out:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13BVG-oTAa6Xh1aL8PKFwIRJrOhCVDRWN
Once connected here’s the end result with it off. The emblem is thicker for the LED board but once installed it’s as cleaned as the OEM.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1DMQle8hgcv4OH3fL1sF82p_80IQkBRfR
and here it is in the dark:
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1zJrXjUvpa-MUAE5ogd6Z6HIkhH-sZr2_https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1FiSKaUMxWiFYlsZ5j1w9_dNSb27lqQLHhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1hxLBw3_U4a_dUgm8p7vb68Iuk7We1nM5
And of course the obligatory advertisement shot:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1T-Kz3vpmzJjEIr3-tRNC35Yl4d8XjWop
And here’s the YT video of it in action:

So what’s next? Well, I’m working on a few items.

1 - I am trying to determine if I can include a module that can reduce the brightness. This is an add on and I have a module that I have already put into design to determine if that is viable.

2 - I am working with the manufacturer as well speak to relocate the wiring so it goes into the existing holes so our buyers WILL NOT have to drill a new hole. Instead, we will rely on the existing holes as you can see above with my measurements.

3 - I am securing all the tape, zip ties, PosiTaps for the kit so each set is ready for installed.

4 - I also need to put together a video explaining how to remove the clips, and how to use the PosiTaps.

Good news is I have 30 units coming by early January! Bad news is I only have 30 units coming by January.

As for pricing, my intention is to keep it $150-$180 shipped with a discount code; I plan to offer a discount code to members in our FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/442511281302312/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF

**Discount Code will be for limited number of orders and is subject to change.**

And btw, we are working on a fourth brake light KIA emblem as well!

Project Red

Mustang Mach E Pony Brake Light

Excited to announce our partnership with MCOM to develop a rear Pony that lights up when braking is initiated. The installation of the rear pony has been designed to be done to ensure that it is a simple Plug-N-Play. It really shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to perform the installation. I worked closely with the MCOM add the ridges to the Pony and that design is exclusive to only EV Vida customers. Originally, the Pony was designed to be always on:

However, I was worried about the driving violations, and I certainly don't want anyone getting pulled over because of the lighting not complying with the law. So the new design will now turn red when brake is pressed. Also, the MCOM Pony was smooth:

To mirror the OEM look, I worked closely with MCOM to replicate the ridges from the OEM version:

Here’s the final product:

I really enjoy the fact that the pony coming on brake lights brings in a certain wow factor.
Here’s the pony in action and some closer look:

Project Spoiler Part 2

Recently obtain Version 2.0 (V2) of the spoiler. The first one simply needed some revisions and I was both excited and anxious to test fit this V2.

My first impression is, I really like the style:
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=114GNX1la5YSk2jgTFizWR8eFweHD0Wxa
Remember this is a test fit and certainly not the final production version. What I like best compared to V1 was the more aggressive curvature. V1 felt flat, V2 has a better angle of the spoiler.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1NHx-9OeftxcqKVGkWe2n9Ks35IWsOaP4
It’s not overly big, in fact it’s quite subtle and for that reason, I am a fan! Each angle you look at, the spoiler gives off a different perspective:
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1J6JqTsmhLFSH_PHZxUS90LYnlFCwj1_Vhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1_b0KFlIvLnoLWNyhEyiDcUF8196Llt4bhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1qh1V8y9BUTLVVHTSFVdF607YrHGqzhx0https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=14I4JQo8dzV58gEn3t2J3tECz9ioqJG-5
Overall I think it does a really good job in following the lines of the car.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1l3sbvRGfB1xYiLhgXY1Mf9-QhTSJR9zkhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1eyWYy5J7ATG8eGn6ueH0dXDw3nByLa-W
As you can see above the spoiler hugs all the way to the edge of the trunk and the Fitment is slightlyOff but that’s primarily because the spoiler was printed in four pieces.
Maybe we can explore no indentation as well but I do feel like we are closer to the production version. What do you think?

Project DRL

Recently we’ve been exploring DRL LED strip attach to the lip of the hood and tapped into the low beam headlights. Of course the market has this already and the idea is to make it unique to our Ioniq 5.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Vq7mBcm66MmFVVGrS1rNGfOuPhm3NJM5

I’ve already posted a video to tapping the low beams in our EV Vida YouTube Channel. We have both the USA Type 1 and Type 2 connector mapped out so the install is as simple as plug-n-play. Here’s a closer view of the DRL to ensure that it matches with the existing DRL.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1yKszcdX9c9BM9PtiaggbFtSpLGNd_iLE

I really do like the lights but I find the cables to be too short and the design could use some better customization. The cable routing I can certainly make it much better and OEM-like.

Back to the design, ideally I want to focus on continuing the Morse code theme. Here’s two examples:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1U5_wet1Y-JQ0__k9OkaE225ihEJq5Fxy
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=12TpaWs28qo2HUDZmkJGL2Cp672_KQHKS

I consider leaving four large rectangle to represent the Morse code H or personalizing a message on one side of the vehicle. Both have pros/cons. Also, disregard the coloring because depending on the angle the light may appear to be more on the 4k range and 7k range (also can be my iPhone).

Here’s what it looks like when you unlock the door:

It’s late and it’s bed time… but I’m excited about this and I hope you are as well.

Project Pony Light Up Part 2; Diode says hi

As I write this, the creator learned about a scenario that may deactivate the Pony. To prevent this from occurring, a single diode must be installed to all the Pony.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1esn1EcLuRO0-Z87kIH7lVjjBbMUgWeau

Simply put, the diode is a safety mechanism that can easily install to prevent future issues with the Pony. I wired about 10 diodes and the goal is the get these installed as quickly as possible. I’m heading to LA this weekend to meet up with a few member and help them with the install.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1iAgU-rU0ZcXVMyDHE3oreFhE5Op0yHO8

What’s going to happen is we would need to remove the frunk and get access to the headlights. And remove the non ground wires and connect them in one end of the diode and the other only to the orange and green.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1h1h1jEth30FRLtOWcSadDmr986FCLfBh

For those with firewall, simply going to remove the power tap and positap that wire to BCM wire and install the diode between orange/green and the pony wire.

Please check out our Youtube Channel here for a more comprehensive overview of the DIY.

Project Pony Light Up

Excited to have a fellow FB member swing by recently to introduce him to the white pony, aka the unicorn. He originally wanted just the regular light up black pony but changed his mind!
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1VNfaJe-vOEp_Ym5TOT5P7LrRvSf2Pjzj
For those who don’t know, there are two types of lights, low/high series:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1APxw0MnkmH4sCSbfnDXg8FJN34AurJxEhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1STIzIvrw6j9uKIpZD-_VttyySjLGqxE6
The difference is the need to go through the firewall. That adds roughly another 20 minutes plus/minus. I’ve done about 10 of these by now and the hardest part of removing the pony but even that I’ve gotten better; here’s one at my crib
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1CVA21CsCeF4nYSRmW3_2DFAvIti53q4P

And here’s another I did at Santa Anita Mall:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1sDz23IoUfrAVOExIswXOdScjRNpat0bO
Heres what you will need if you want to do this yourself:

Power Tools/wireless/couple of battery:
10mm socket
Flat head screw driver
WD-40
Crimp tool
Scissor
Rag
1/4 drill bit
Long flat head screw driver
Nimble metal snip tool
Wire puncture tool
3m tape
Positap
Zip ties

This is the end result:

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13xo1PBvacO6O0bWAyXpkTcJTeXbZAdRphttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1CKJBoQJIxywQ-IQ4TLlIWM0E85Xi42OIhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Ds3RUiHLvTAZP7risRYFxzgff_n3I1Ai
And what you see from the last picture is the bumper plugs that we also carry.  The hardest part is just taking your time. We do offer installation service and mobile install as well in select SoCal location. Hit us up at customersupport@evvidastore.com if you got any questions!
