Project DRL

Recently we’ve been exploring DRL LED strip attach to the lip of the hood and tapped into the low beam headlights. Of course the market has this already and the idea is to make it unique to our Ioniq 5.

I’ve already posted a video to tapping the low beams in our EV Vida YouTube Channel. We have both the USA Type 1 and Type 2 connector mapped out so the install is as simple as plug-n-play. Here’s a closer view of the DRL to ensure that it matches with the existing DRL.

I really do like the lights but I find the cables to be too short and the design could use some better customization. The cable routing I can certainly make it much better and OEM-like.

Back to the design, ideally I want to focus on continuing the Morse code theme. Here’s two examples:

I consider leaving four large rectangle to represent the Morse code H or personalizing a message on one side of the vehicle. Both have pros/cons. Also, disregard the coloring because depending on the angle the light may appear to be more on the 4k range and 7k range (also can be my iPhone).

Here’s what it looks like when you unlock the door:

It’s late and it’s bed time… but I’m excited about this and I hope you are as well.

Project Pony Light Up Part 2; Diode says hi

As I write this, the creator learned about a scenario that may deactivate the Pony. To prevent this from occurring, a single diode must be installed to all the Pony.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1esn1EcLuRO0-Z87kIH7lVjjBbMUgWeau

Simply put, the diode is a safety mechanism that can easily install to prevent future issues with the Pony. I wired about 10 diodes and the goal is the get these installed as quickly as possible. I’m heading to LA this weekend to meet up with a few member and help them with the install.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1iAgU-rU0ZcXVMyDHE3oreFhE5Op0yHO8

What’s going to happen is we would need to remove the frunk and get access to the headlights. And remove the non ground wires and connect them in one end of the diode and the other only to the orange and green.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1h1h1jEth30FRLtOWcSadDmr986FCLfBh

For those with firewall, simply going to remove the power tap and positap that wire to BCM wire and install the diode between orange/green and the pony wire.

Project Pony Light Up

Excited to have a fellow FB member swing by recently to introduce him to the white pony, aka the unicorn. He originally wanted just the regular light up black pony but changed his mind!
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1VNfaJe-vOEp_Ym5TOT5P7LrRvSf2Pjzj
For those who don’t know, there are two types of lights, low/high series:

The difference is the need to go through the firewall. That adds roughly another 20 minutes plus/minus. I’ve done about 10 of these by now and the hardest part of removing the pony but even that I’ve gotten better; here’s one at my crib
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1CVA21CsCeF4nYSRmW3_2DFAvIti53q4P

And here’s another I did at Santa Anita Mall:

Heres what you will need if you want to do this yourself:

Power Tools/wireless/couple of battery:
10mm socket
Flat head screw driver
WD-40
Crimp tool
Scissor
Rag
1/4 drill bit
Long flat head screw driver
Nimble metal snip tool
Wire puncture tool
3m tape
Positap
Zip ties

This is the end result:

And what you see from the last picture is the bumper plugs that we also carry.  The hardest part is just taking your time. We do offer installation service and mobile install as well in select SoCal location. Hit us up at customersupport@evvidastore.com if you got any questions!

Project Spoil

Eventually, we hope to spoil you all!

We are still far from completion but we am eager to start exploring a spoiler on the Ioniq 5. Zac from BestEVMod is considering a trunk spoiler and I was lucky to get a prototype recently. Unfortunately, it did not arrive in one piece.

Luckily, I was able to reassemble using painters tape. Of course, after this was done, I had to put it on the trunk just to see it!

While the spoiler fitment was spot on, the style was NOT. It was too flat and it needed a better angle. I had to veto and Zac agreed. So now we are back to the drawing board but a redesign shouldn't take long. The end game is to have a gloss black spoiler at an affordable cost using 3m tape for adhesion. A Christmas delivery right now is a long shot but you never know.

Project Hello

                                                            EV Vida has gone LOCA!

We are partnering up with The Leg
end John Kennedy (Creator of the light up Mustang Mach E Pony - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/supared/mustang-mach-e-illuminated-pony-badge) and the brains behind BestEVMod, Mr Zac to bring you an emblem unlike any other you’ve seen. By now, you all are quite familiar with our Morse Code Product for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but this will add a dimension that we’ve always envisioned in our product road map.

Pictures of the Morse Code Line Up currently

I want to first thank everyone at FB/Reddit/Forums for supporting us! The original design was always going to be step one and now we are taking a major step forward in bringing the morse code badge to life. Ever since John deliver the light up Pony, I figure eventually I can convince him to partner up to deliver something that is beyond just a emblem. So that’s what we did; took the Morse Code Emblem, put a PCB underneath, with RGB and

Picture above: PCB/Picture below closer view of the
emblem with the PCB showing through

Light it up!

Picture above: The LEDs showing through our resin print out

However, we’ve all seen light up emblems so that’s not new. This is where we separate ourselves. We knew we had to bring the Morse Code feature to the emblem. At first, flashing the Morse Code to spell letter H seemed simple and clever and we could have stopped there. Collectively, we all felt it was not quite reaching the level of excitement. As a result, Project Hello was born. Imagine, walking in to your car, and your emblem flashes H-E-L-L-O, well imagine no more:

Morse Code: .... . .-.. .-.. ---

We are currently working on the actual emblem, securing the gloss black finish, one way mirror paint for the squares, and finalizing the PCB so it’s align perfectly with our emblem. Here's a quick picture of how the wire will run:

Picture above: Top of the Hood

Picture above: Sketch of how the wires will be routed

We’ve even video mapped out how the wires will run:

As you can see, the wiring will be hidden mostly, 99% of the wires are concealed. As for sourcing the power, we are tapping into the headlight’s safely to the low beams and ground at the moment. In doing so, the emblem will always light up when the car is on and the light setting is set to the automatic mode. Using Posi-Taps the installation process is simplify.

Of course we still need to do more testing and map out the pins for all regions. We already know there are two types of connectors Type 1 and 2. We will map the pins that needs to be tapped.

It tough to estimate when this will all be done. Originally we were hoping this will be out by Christmas and it still might be. While that may occur, we would want to test this out thoroughly and we will have opportunities for testers with a reduce cost.

;and... there's more to this emblem that I have yet to share! I hope to keep this blog running on other products and a follow up to this one was well. Can't wait until we get these mass produced and made available to you all!
